It's 1928 and while Basie is swingin' the Savoy, Shorty
George is busy inventing the Lindy Hop and Al Capone is at large. You're
right there when it all began. A time when dancing was the centre of everyone's
social world and the mob ran the streets. A time of Gangsters and Flappers.
When you step into the beautiful original ballroom all dolled up in your
Flapper dress or Zoot Suit you'll see a huge dance floor and hear the
sublime sounds of Melbourne's authentic 16 piece JW
Swing Orchestra. Time to get hep and get HOT!

The
venue for the Melbourne Lindy Exchange Ball has one of the biggest and
best sprung dance floors in Melbourne, yet almost nobody in the dance
community knows of its existence. Virtually unused for over 20 years,
it has stood at 20 Brunswick Street, near the Victoria Parade corner,
since 1903. Only recently has Central Hall been re-opened for use, mostly
for music concerts and exams. Prepare to be transported back in time when
you step through the doors and see its ornate original ceilings, balconies,
and chandaliers. And that floor!
