SAFETY AT MLX

At MLX we strive to create an event where everyone feels safe and free to enjoy themselves. We won’t tolerate any form of unacceptable behaviour and encourage you to report anything that breaches our code of conduct.

If you need to speak to a safety officer urgently during the event, you will be able to call the MLX safe spaces phone number 0493 884 838, but for now, please contact us via email or via our anonymous online form.

NEED HELP?

If you are injured, feel uncomfortable or unsafe, or are experiencing or witnessing inappropriate behaviour, please let us know immediately. We will take urgent action. We will handle your complaint with absolute seriousness and in the strictest confidence.

At our events, you can approach:

  1. the safe spaces officer (pictured online and at the front desk)

  2. the event manager (pictured online and at the front desk)

  3. our volunteers at the front desk

  4. our roaming volunteers.

The event manager and the safe spaces officer will handle your issue with care.
If you do not feel comfortable speaking to someone while you are at the event itself, please contact us at mlxsafespace@gmail.com.
We also have an anonymous feedback form for issues relating to the Code of Conduct.

CODE OF CONDUCT

MLX has a code of conduct that everyone who attends needs to adhere to so everyone can feel safe and enjoy themselves. This applies not just to dancers but also musicians, staff members, DJs and volunteers.

If someone does not adhere to the code of conduct, they may be ejected from the venue and/or banned from attending the rest of the event and even the next MLX. You can report breaches of the code.

REPORTS

reports

There are different ways to report an issue that you’d like the MLX safe spaces officers to be aware of. You can report before the event starts, during the event and after the event.

You can report in person, via phone/text, email or fill in an anonymous form online.

Head over to our reports page for more information about reports.

MLX POLICIES

ALCOHOL POLICY

There is no BYO alcohol at MLX. Most venues will have a bar on-site; for 2024, our Saturday Night Gala event is alcohol-free.

ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES POLICY

Attendees are not to bring illegal substances or items to any MLX event. This includes illicit drugs and weapons of any sort. Please familiarise yourself with the relevant Victorian laws if you are from interstate or overseas. If you are behaving inappropriately as a result of substance use, we reserve the right to remove you from the event.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS POLICY

As MLX has licensed events, we are legally restricted from having minors attend without a parent or guardian.

All licensed or late night events require a parent or parent-appointed guardian to be in attendance at the event for all attendees under the age of 18 for the entire time that the minor attendee is at the event. It is the responsibility of the parent of any minor to organise this before the event. We are not able to stand in proxy for parents.

Accommodation and transport for minors should also be organised by parents before the event so that they are comfortable with the arrangements and the minor feels safe in the environment in which they are placed.

Minors will be required to wear an identifying item (wristband, etc.) provided by MLX to allow licensed venues and other attendees to identify them.
